Lake Bujuku

Lake Bujuku is termed as part of Uganda’s highland haven situated in Kasese District in the western part of the pearl of Africa, nestled in the Bujuku valley of Mountain Rwenzori. This lake is ranked as the eight delight lake in the mystical mountain.

This lake was formed by moraines and meltwater from the Rwenzori glaciers serving as the main source of water for rivers and streams that feed in to the Nyamwaba Valley and surrounding floodplains.

Expectation during the hiking experience at Lake Bujuku

Hiking to reach the astonishing Lake Bujuku takes almost three to four days depending on the hiker’s potential and the chosen hiking routes followed. During the hiking adventure expect to sight at the numerous lush vegetation species as well as seeing the Bujuku River.

Tourists are to hike from the low Bigo bog to the upper Bigo bog where they will continue with the trail walking across the river having clear views of the beautiful Stanely. Later reach Lake Bujuku which is situated at height of approximately 3962 meters above the sea level with length of almost 1.37 kilometers.

The best time to visit Lake Bujuku

Lake Bujuku can be visited throughout the whole year however dry season is the best timing for one to pay a visit, that typically happens in the months of June, July, August to September and from December, January to February.

This period is good for hiking Lake Bujuku because most of the trail heads are dry and stable thus making the hiking experience friendly and easier, also photography is better with bright sky for clear views.

Tourists are advised to make use of 4×4 wheel drive tourist’s vehicle when coming to visit this destination because most roads are in bad state in order to avoid any inconvenience on their way.
