Gustavo Corti - head of the expedition
Association L'Umana Dimora

Head of the expedition and coordinator of the "Mountain Group" of the association "L'Umana Dimora". Physiotherapist by profession, MSc in Community disability studies, has worked in Uganda from 1998 to 2001 in the development of projects for AVSI NGO, in the field of disability and rehabilitation. He climbed Rwenzori in July 2001, right after the reopening of the park. In force of these experiences and of the collaboration with prof. Vassena he has organized the present project on the occasion of the anniversary of the first ascent Rwenzori mountain.

Italian Alpine Club (CAI)

Scientific responsible of the entire project, president of the association "L'Umana Dimora", he is professor of topography and cartography at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of studies of Brescia. In the recent years he has been developing and applying advanced techniques of surveying in the mountain and glaciological field. He has been the scientific responsible of numerous scientific expedition in Himalaya. Member of the Central Scientific Committee of the Italian Alpine Club (CAI) and responsible of the SIT-CAI work group (GIS CAI).

Filippo Ciantia
Association NGO AVSI

Physician, responsible for AVSI ngo in planning, coordinating and carrying out cooperation projects in the educational, medical, social development, cultural and technological fields. He has been especially involved in research activities for treatment of HIV virus.


Claudio Smiraglia
University of Milan
Italian Alpine Club (CAI)

Professor of geography at the University of Milan, he has been president of the Central Scientific Committee of CAI for many years, and now vice president. He is one of the most prestigious representative of the Italian glaciology and geomorphology.
Responsible of many researches at international level, he has been working in Himalaya, Karakorum, South America and Antarctic.


Guglielmina Diolaiuti
University of Milan
Italian Alpine Club (CAI)

Scientific researcher in geology, glaciology and geomorphology, is author of a lot of national and international scientific publications. She is particularly involved in alpine area, Karakorum, and Antarctic where she is carrying on glaciological studies.


Nakileza Bob
Makerere University, Kampala

Lecturer at the Geography Department and Co-ordinator of the Mountain Resource Centre and Environment Management Programme, Makerere University. He has actively participated in the biogeographical and glaciological research on Mt Elgon and Rwenzori respectively. His major interest is in environmental change studies.


Gregorio Mannucci
ARPA Lombardia

Responsible of geological landslides sector of the Regional Agency for the environment of Lombardia (ARPA) - Italy. He works in different geological fields, mainly focused on using advanced technologies for geological and environmental monitoring. He has also been involved in extra-european research project (Antarctic and Himalaya).


Ruggero Bontempi
Association L'Umana Dimora

Naturalist and journalist specialized in environmental spreading. He works in planning action and instruments focused on the valorization of sustainable tourism, especially inside protected natural areas and mountain areas. He is the president of L'umana Dimora local section in Brescia - Italy.


Silvia Vassena
Association L'Umana Dimora

Specialist in Anglo-American literature, since 1989 she has been working in the sector of human sciences, as responsible for co-editions and for developing contracts for the illustrated books department of a publishin house. She has been travelling extensively for international bookfairs too. Adviser for a cultural centre, specialized in anthropology and cultural studies, she is the responsible for the cultural and historical researches of L'Umana Dimora.

Filippo Bernini
Association L'Umana Dimora

Naturalist. He is working since 1995 as professional in natural conservation field (vegetation, flora, fauna, ecosystems, land and landscape). He also worked in educational environmental projects (spreading and teaching), and specific training for environmental technicians.


Roberto Sgrenzaroli

Keen on photography and collector, skilled in photographs, historical images and their conservation. He took part in numerous extraeuropean activities, including the participation and the management of one Himalaya scientific expedition.


Marco Preti

Born in Brescia (northern Italy) in 1956, director/cameraman specialized in extreme documentaries and fiction movies in the most remote areas of the world: mountains, oceans, deserts, jungles, adventure travels. At 30, he left his activity of professional climber (testimonial of several companies: alpine guide, ski instructor, winner in 1985 of one world free-climbing competition) for cinematography. He studied with R. McKee (screenplays), R. Richards (direction) and acting (D. De Fazio).

Gaetano Carcano - responsible of Verona (northern Italy) local branch of L'Umana Dimora, engineer, mountaineer, has participated in various glaciological researches in Italy and Himalaya;

Annalisa Berzi - secretary of the Scientific Central Committee of the Italian Alpine Club, she is the responsible of archive research;

Matteo Sgrenzaroli - Professor of Remote Sensing at Brescia University, mountaineer and expert in laser scanner survey;

Costante Bonacina, Francesco Carcano, Giovanni Carcano, Lorenzo Cavallari, Bruno Illuminati, Carlo Lanzi, Simone Radovan, Massimo Gelmini - mountaineers, high altitude surveyors.
